BP-2010A measures blood pressure in rats and mice by the tail-cuff method with photoelectric plethysmography. An infrared sensor follows pulse volume in the tail artery while the cuff inflates, and the system reports SBP, DBP, MBP, and heart rate.
How it measures
BP-2010A combines the tail-cuff method with photoelectric plethysmography. The infrared sensor monitors blood-volume change in the tail artery. From the pressure–pulse relationship during inflation, the instrument obtains systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressure, plus heart rate.
- Infrared monitoring of the tail-artery pulse wave
- Rats and mice across a wide body-size range (10–1800 g)
- Sensors and accessories that can be matched to the protocol
Operation and animal handling
Automatic pulse-wave stability detection decides when the pulse is steady and then completes the preset number of measurements. The main unit calculates averages, standard deviations, standard errors, and coefficients of variation. The software flags operational errors and suggests remedies as they occur.
Training videos are sent with the instrument.
- Canvas pouches and rodent nets that follow the animals’ natural posture
- Temperature-controlled cylindrical warming chamber, adjustable 30–40 °C
- PC-controlled mode with live data on the computer, or standalone mode with SD-card storage
- 4.3-inch LCD for live readings on the instrument
Data and throughput
Pulse waves are monitored in real time. Animal information, raw waveforms, and results are stored automatically. Results can be re-edited and analyzed, exported as Excel or images, and turned into customizable reports. MD5 fingerprinting supports data traceability for GLP work. Schedules can be set for repeated measurements, including animals in shock when the protocol requires it.
- Multi-channel warming so several animals can be prepared together
- About 10–15 seconds per session
- Multiple units can be combined into a workstation for larger studies
